All Done!

George and I made it through our Cleanse! We altered the last week a bit, using it more as a transition into our new healthier eating habits while utilizing the food log and being responsible for what we are eating.

I think the Cleanse is a wonderful tool. It helps get toxins and junk out of your body and organs so they can work better for you. I also love it, because, contrary to what one may think, it really focuses on food. G and I ate so many different foods and realized how much we loved eating clean, healthy foods. I tend to rely on meals we love, mostly based on meat, so to change my focus, using more vegetables, more fish, and loving it, was honestly life changing. We also found that there is more to dessert than just ice cream. One of our favorites being sliced strawberries with warmed up chocolate almond butter, yum!

Both times I have done this Cleanse, it has been such a wonderful learning experience. When I did it last year, my eating habits were all over the place. Eating well mostly during the week, then way too much on the weekend. I also thought cereal and milk was a great breakfast to have every morning, or goldfish crackers were a great snack. During my first Cleanse, I broke those habits. I incorporated way more fruits and vegetables into my diet. I learned that I needed to have a protein-filled breakfast. I learned that although goldfish are good, and relatively low in calories, they are not going to do much for me as a snack. A couple of months after my first Cleanse, I started using the food log, which helped me take control of what I was eating, start being consistent and really get my weight where I’ve always wanted it.

As the saying goes, “Knowledge is Power” and this is so true when it comes to food. It’s been about 2 years since I started Acupuncture school, almost a year since my first Cleanse, and almost 9 months since I have been logging my food. And boy have I learned a lotI feel in control and I feel happy. I love cooking and I love food. This will never change, so to know that I can still totally enjoy food, while still being healthy and fit is just amazing.

My favorite part of the Cleanse this year was doing it with George. It was great to be a support for George, sharing my knowledge of how I felt doing it before, cooking him delicious meals, and even filling up his pill case! 🙂 It was so good for me to be able to practice for the future and see what it will be like helping future clients. I love seeing G so happy with his weight loss. I love that he’s proud of himself (as he should be!), for having the will power to get through, and for trying so many new foods. He didn’t kick the smoking habit yet, but he’s really working on it, and has cut down. He’ll get there!

Watching George learning about his body, starting to respect and love his body makes me so happy. In my life’s work I hope to help others feel that way as well. I truly believe that a love for your own body and all that it does for you is the first step to health, happiness and healing.

Whether it’s starting with a Cleanse, or utilizing a food log, or starting an exercise routine that you love, do it for yourself and own it. And you will be right where you are supposed to be.
